A pull request that sort of rivals #294. I'm unhappy with that PR as well, so I decided to take a shot at it myself.
My problems with that PR are very fundamental to how that PR decided to architect things, so I thought it'd be faster if I wrote everything myself
TODO: filter out UNIX home folders exposed through Wine's Z: drive as well (there is some commented out code that does that)
