According to the java.sql.Driver.connect() specification, drivers should return null instead of throwing an exception when they cannot accept a given URL. This allows DriverManager to iterate through all registered drivers until it finds one that can handle the URL.

Summary of Changes

Hello @keshavdandeva, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request enhances the BigQueryDriver's adherence to the JDBC specification by modifying the connect() method's behavior. Instead of throwing an exception for malformed connection URLs, the driver will now gracefully return null, which is the expected behavior according to the JDBC standard. This change improves the robustness and predictability of the driver when handling invalid connection strings.

Highlights

  • JDBC Compliance: The connect() method in BigQueryDriver.java now returns null when provided with an invalid URL, aligning with the JDBC specification for driver behavior. Previously, it threw an IllegalArgumentException.
  • Test Updates: The corresponding test in BigQueryDriverTest.java has been updated to reflect this change, asserting that connect() returns null for invalid URLs. The assertThrows import was also removed as it's no longer needed.

Code Review

This pull request correctly aligns the BigQueryDriver with the JDBC specification. The connect() method is modified to return null for invalid or unsupported URLs, instead of throwing an IllegalArgumentException. This is the standard behavior expected from a JDBC driver. The accompanying test has been updated to verify this new, correct behavior. The changes are accurate and improve the driver's compliance.
