TSE Testing schemes

The following schemes report the sequences of tests conducted on samples collected in the context of the TSE monitoring programmes in Europe.

The different schemes cover:

  • Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in bovine animals;
  • Scrapie in small ruminants (sheep and goats);
  • Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in cervids.

The testing schemes are used in the TSE data reporting tool to create a predefined list of tests which have been possibly performed on samples in order to detect and type TSE cases.

When the data provider fills in information within the TSE data reporting tool in the Preferences form, it is required to carefully check all the records that are automatically created within the “analytical results” form in order to ensure that the list reflects the real sequence of tests executed on the samples.

In case the data provider is not fully aware of which tests were performed on the samples, it is her/his responsibility to contact the laboratory to obtain detailed information needed for reporting TSE data to EFSA.

The testing schemes were provided by the EURL. To provide comments please contact zoonoses_support@efsa.europa.eu.
