This isn’t your typical flu outbreak – the Black Death has nothing on the destruction this evil bio-weapon can cause. It can kill within minutes and spread extremely quickly, even before killing its host. The old “spray” cure is not effective due to an unexpected genetic mutation.
When a life is claimed by the Bio-Virus, it neurologically transforms the patient into one of the Infected, who will spread the disease even further if not dealt with quickly.
- Many sources, such as Infected NPCs and Contaminant Barrels, can add an amount of Infection to players and human NPCs. Aliens, robots, and most custom NPCs are immune.
- The Bio-Virus’s damage ticks every 1.25 seconds. Each tick, every infected entity will take 1 to 4 damage and lose 1 Infection.
- If the host entity doesn’t have a Gas Mask, all nearby entities without a Gas Mask will gain an amount of Infection equal to the host’s own Infection, divided by a random number between 4 and 8.
- If a patient starts “crying,” they’re very likely to die of the Bio-Virus if they don't get healed quickly.
- If the Bio-Virus kills its victim, the victim will be momentarily raised into an Infected. By default, the infected will have the same maximum health as the victim.
- Also by default, the mortal damage must be inflicted by the Bio-Virus or an Infected to raise a new Infected. This means that you can kill an infected entity prematurely to prevent them from being raised, or you can commit suicide to avoid becoming an Infected yourself.
- There is no way to reduce or gain immunity to Bio-Virus infection. If you get infected, you can usually wait it out given sufficient healing.
