This function block provides TCP/IP or UDP/IP socket communication for connecting to IP ports on remote or local servers. The component allows for sending and receiving data over a network using either the TCP or UDP protocol. The component is stateful and must be in the open state to send or receive data.

Once a connection to a server is established, data can be sent to and received from the server. There is no data buffering by the function block, so large incoming data packets may result in overruns if not consumed immediately.

port I 8000 0 65535 IP socket number to open for communication.
tcp/udp I 0 0 1 0 for TCP, 1 for UDP.
In Ev. Description
open Opens the port and attempts to connect to the server.
close Disconnects from the server and stops accepting data packets.
send Sends data to the connected server.
Data In Description
url The remote IP address to connect to.
port The remote IP port (service) on which to connect.
data Data to send to the server. Binary or string data may be sent; null-terminated string format is expected if no data length is specified.
size Size of data buffer to send back to the server.
Data Out Description
data Data received. Must be consumed immediately to avoid data loss.
size Number of bytes received.
Out Ev. Description
received Event triggered when data is received from the server. Only active when the port is open.
